Brain & Body

Omega-3 and magnesium L-threonate for adults, the multivitamin with iron plus omega-3 for children, and folinic acid only when a practitioner directs it.

Who it's for

For adults who want nutrient support for attention and steady focus. Children: practitioner-directed, after deficiencies have been checked. Folinic acid is added only when a practitioner recommends it.

About this protocol and the studies behind it

Provides EPA and DHA, structural omega-3s in brain and nerve-cell membranes. Magnesium contributes to normal nervous-system function. Phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine are phospholipids found in neuronal membranes. Folate and B12 support normal methylation and neurotransmitter production.

This protocol carries its own magnesium, so a household that also owns the Daily Base keeps one magnesium product, not two. One cholinergic product at a time, and one folate product at a time.

From the studies

In a randomized trial, children with ADHD who took 200 mg a day of phosphatidylserine for two months improved on a working-memory task (Hirayama 2014, PMID 23495677). Meta-analyses of omega-3 in ADHD show a small effect (Bloch 2011, PMID 21961774) with uncertain evidence overall (Cochrane 2023, PMID 37058600). In the MADDY trial, a broad micronutrient formula improved blinded-clinician ratings in children with ADHD (Johnstone 2022, PMID 34303786). In a randomized placebo-controlled trial, autistic children with language impairment who took folinic acid for 12 weeks improved on a standardized verbal-communication measure (Frye 2018, PMID 27752075).

Child, practitioner-directed

Practitioner-directed. A multivitamin's 3 mg of iron is not a treatment for low ferritin; ask for testing and a prescription iron product where needed. The folinic-acid module is for the subgroup a practitioner identifies, with weight-based dosing set by them.

In the protocol

  • Spectrum Formula + Iron Chewable

    Multivitamin with iron

4 tablets a day from age 4; 2 tablets a day at ages 1 to 3 · Split between morning and evening

The single source of iron, iodine, vitamin A, vitamin D, zinc and B6 in the protocol. Iron overdose is dangerous for children: keep it locked away.

    $39.98
  • Omega-3 Mini

    Omega-3

As directed by your child's practitioner · With food; the softgel can be pierced into food

EPA-weighted. One fish-oil product per person.

Optional add-ons

  • Spectrum Neurotransmitter Support

NAC, DHA and phosphatidylserine powder, age 4 and up

How to start

  1. Correct deficiencies first (8 to 12 weeks for a child), then add the omega-3 or phosphatidylserine layer.
  2. Folinic acid only under a practitioner, started low; judge verbal communication at 12 weeks.
  3. Judge attention and working memory at 8 weeks, the omega-3 at 12 weeks.

Read before you buy

  • One magnesium: Magnesium L-Threonate or Magnesium Night, not both.
  • One folate product: Speech Essentials Improved or Pro, Liquid Folinic or the 3-B12-Folate lozenge, never two.
  • One cholinergic product: Spectrum BDNF Support, CogniCalm, Brain Tonic + or Neuro, never two. CogniCalm and Neuro are adults only.
  • Formula C is an adult option; never with Spectrum B Complex.
  • Fish allergen in Omega-3 Mini and the DHA liquid.
  • Designed so no calming, mineral or vitamin ingredient is doubled across products.

Attention concerns are assessed by clinicians. Supplements are adjuncts. Talk to your child's healthcare provider before use.
