What it is

3-B12-Folate is a lozenge that pairs three active forms of vitamin B12, methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, with folate as Quatrefolic, the glucosamine salt of [6S]-5-methyltetrahydrofolate. Each lozenge gives 3,000 mcg of B12 and 680 mcg DFE of folate. Using three cobalamins covers the methyl form the methylation cycle uses, the adenosyl form mitochondria use and the hydroxo form the body converts as needed. Because the lozenge dissolves in the mouth, much of the vitamin is taken up through the oral lining rather than depending entirely on digestion. It is orange flavored and sweetened with luo han guo (monk fruit).

Who it's for

B12 and folate work as a pair in the methylation cycle, which recycles homocysteine to methionine and supports DNA synthesis, neurotransmitter balance, red blood cell formation and nerve function. Adenosylcobalamin also supports energy production in mitochondria. This lozenge is for an adult or child who needs both nutrients in their active forms, whose practitioner prefers a mouth-dissolving delivery, or who will not swallow capsules and can hold a lozenge in the mouth until it melts.

Format and how to take

Orange-flavored lozenges, 60 per box. The label's recommended use: take one lozenge per day, or as directed by your health care practitioner. Allow the lozenge to dissolve slowly and completely in the mouth, then swallow. The label gives no children's dose, so ask your practitioner about use for children.

• Folate 680 mcg DFE (170% DV), as Quatrefolic [6S]-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, glucosamine salt, 800 mcg
• Vitamin B12 3,000 mcg (125,000% DV), as methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin and adenosylcobalamin

Other ingredients: mannitol, modified cellulose, natural orange flavor and color, vegetable stearate, citric acid, luo han guo extract (fruit). Does not contain gluten, dairy, soy or GMOs. The label carries no allergen statement. Quatrefolic is a registered trademark of Gnosis S.p.A.

Precautions

From the label: store at room temperature and keep out of reach of children. The label carries no other warnings. The B12 amount is many times the Daily Value, which is usual for a B12 lozenge but is a reason to use it under guidance. Check with your practitioner before use if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or considering it for a child, and mention any other B12 or folate products you use so the daily total can be checked.
