Magnesium Night
About this protocol and the studies behind it

Magnesium supports normal sleep and a healthy stress response. Glycine is an amino acid the body uses in its own sleep regulation. GABA lozenges offer a mild evening calm. Melatonin supports the body's natural sleep-wake rhythm.

Behavioural sleep measures come first, especially for children: a regular bedtime, light and screens managed. Melatonin belongs in a conversation with a clinician, at the lowest dose that works, and one melatonin product at a time.

From the studies

In small randomized crossover trials, adults who took 3 g of glycine before bed during sleep restriction reported less daytime fatigue and sleepiness the next day (Bannai 2012, PMID 22529837). In a 13-week randomized placebo-controlled trial, autistic children and adolescents who took prolonged-release melatonin slept about 57 minutes longer per night against 9 minutes on placebo (Gringras 2017, PMID 29096777).

How to start

  1. Pick one evening product and give it a week.
  2. Children: behavioural sleep measures first; melatonin only with a clinician, at the lowest dose, stored locked away.

Read before you buy

  • One magnesium per person; no added magnesium in kidney disease.
  • Do not stack Magnesium Night and Glycine; one calm product, Calming Cortisol or GABA Lozenges, never both. Ashwagandha is adults only.
  • One melatonin product at a time. Sleep Formula and Sleep Lozenges contain 5-HTP: not with antidepressants, and for a child only under a practitioner's direction.
  • Melatonin may cause drowsiness: no driving until you know how it affects you.
  • Designed so no calming, mineral or vitamin ingredient is doubled across products.

A steady bedtime routine and behavioural measures come first. Talk to your child's healthcare provider before use.

Most of this evidence comes from adult trials of single ingredients. No protocol has been tested as a whole.
