Magnesium L-threonate as Magtein in capsules: a three-capsule serving supplies 145 mg of magnesium to support cognitive function and healthy magnesium levels.
What it is Brain Mag is magnesium L-threonate in capsules, supplied as Magtein®, the patented form of magnesium studied for its ability to raise magnesium levels in the brain. Each three-capsule serving carries 2 g of magnesium L-threonate, which delivers 145 mg of elemental magnesium, 34% of the Daily Value. The capsule is cellulose, and the only other ingredients are dicalcium phosphate, vegetable stearate and microcrystalline cellulose. It is the capsule counterpart of our Magnesium L-Threonate+ Powder, without the malate and glycinate chelates that the powder adds.
Who it's for Magnesium takes part in several hundred enzyme reactions and supports nervous system function, cognitive function, muscle relaxation and healthy sleep. The label's own claim is brain health and normal cognitive function. Magtein is the form used in a 2022 randomized trial in adults that measured cognitive performance (Zhang 2022, PMID 36558392); the studies we looked at are reported on the research pages, in the third person. The formula suits an adult, or an older child under a practitioner's guidance, who prefers capsules to a powder. One magnesium product at a time: do not combine it with the Magnesium L-Threonate+ Powder, Magnesium Night, Mag-B6 or the Mag + Zinc + B6 Liquid unless a practitioner sets the daily total. The label gives no children's dose; ask your practitioner about use for children.
Format and how to take Ninety capsules in an amber glass bottle, 30 servings. Label directions: take 3 capsules per day, or as directed by your health-care practitioner; divided dosing is recommended, for example one capsule with each meal.
Ingredients Per 3 capsules (30 servings per container), from the label: - Magnesium (from 2 g Magtein® magnesium L-threonate) 145 mg (34% DV)
Other ingredients: cellulose (capsule), dicalcium phosphate, vegetable stearate, microcrystalline cellulose. The label states that the product does not contain gluten, dairy, soy or GMOs. Magtein® is a registered trademark of Magceutics, Inc.
Precautions From the label: store at room temperature and keep out of reach of children. The label carries no medication warning. Magnesium can reduce the absorption of some antibiotics and of bisphosphonates when taken at the same time, so separate the doses by a few hours, and a high magnesium intake can loosen stools. Tell your practitioner about any other magnesium product you take so the daily total can be checked.
