What it is

ADEK-Formula is a fat-soluble vitamin complex in a single daily softgel. The label lists vitamin A as palmitate, vitamin D3 as cholecalciferol, vitamin K as both K1 (phytonadione) and K2 (menaquinone-4), and vitamin E as delta and gamma tocotrienols (DeltaGold). It also carries 5 mg of trans-geranylgeraniol (GG-Gold), a fat-soluble compound the body uses as a building block when it makes its own menaquinone-4 and coenzyme Q10. The softgel base is medium chain triglycerides, an oil carrier suited to nutrients that are absorbed along with fat.

Who it's for

This is a higher-strength formula: one softgel supplies 5000 IU of vitamin D and 1050 mcg of vitamin K. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and supports bones, teeth and immune function. K1 and K2 help direct that calcium into bone and support normal blood clotting. Vitamin A supports vision, skin and the immune system, and tocotrienols add antioxidant support for cell membranes. It suits an adult, or an older child under a practitioner's guidance, whose practitioner has asked for vitamin D together with vitamin K, and who can swallow a softgel. If a gentler daily amount is wanted, ADEK Mini carries the same four vitamins with much less vitamin D and K per softgel.

Format and how to take

Softgels, 60 per bottle, one per serving. The capsule is bovine gelatin colored with annatto. The label's recommended use: take one softgel per day, or as directed by your health care practitioner. The label gives no children's dose, so ask your practitioner about use for children.

• Vitamin K 1050 mcg (875% DV), as vitamin K1 phytonadione 1000 mcg and vitamin K2 menaquinone-4 50 mcg
• Vitamin E isomers (as DeltaGold delta and gamma tocotrienols) 50 mg
• Trans-geranylgeraniol (as GG-Gold) 5 mg

Daily Value not established for the tocotrienols or geranylgeraniol. Other ingredients: bovine gelatin, purified water, glycerine, medium chain triglycerides, annatto (color), beeswax, quillaja extract. Allergens: contains fish (cod). Precautions

The label warns: consult your health care practitioner before using this product if you are taking Coumadin, warfarin or other anticoagulant medications, because vitamin K plays a role in blood clotting. Store at room temperature. Keep out of reach of children. This is a high-potency vitamin D and K product; if you take other supplements that contain these vitamins, tell your practitioner so the daily total can be checked. Contains fish (cod).
